Since Alta formally began as a ski area in 1938, eighteen individuals who in some way contributed to Alta’s rich ski history, have (as of 2008) been enshrined in the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame* and Museum located in Ishpeming, Michigan. As an additional fact, Alta has served as a “ski home” to the only family thus far to have four members inducted in this prestigious institution. They are Alf, Sverre, Corey, and Alan Engen.
Featured on the poster is a historical action photo of the legendary skier, the late Dick Durrance, taken by his wife, Miggs, at Alta in the early 1940s. The photo was taken on the slope known as Schuss Gully near the old original Collins Lift. Designed by Scott Engen, this limited edition poster carries special endorsement by the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame; the Utah State Historical Society; and the Utah Ski Archives.
The following is a listing of the individuals highlighted on the poster and the year they were inducted into the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame. Photos courtesy of Alta Ski Area and the J. Willard Marriott Library Ski Archives.
